Worthy Officers, Brothers, and Sir Knights,
I recently learned of a new modern condition; “FOMO”. I had to look it up online. It describes a “fear of missing out”. Of course, as a secular concern, it capitalizes on our insecurities regarding being accepted and loved and included by the people we admire. I think for those of us who seek to be reconciled to God, it could also describe our motive for being “religious”, going to Church, seeking the sacraments, doing good works, and saying our prayers. Hopefully, those actions reflect a deeper conversion of heart, but I think many of us miss that inner change in attitude. The whole history of humanity is the story of our resistance to the love of God. God is always romancing us, and we play hard to get, or we are unfaithful. God has never stopped loving us. We lost our place in Eden because of Pride. This planet is not the honeymoon destination God has planned for us. The ultimate marriage proposal to us from God happened on the Cross. The Resurrection of Jesus makes everlasting happiness in the Kingdom of Heaven ours if we say yes to His proposal. We must vow in humility and obedience to love Him above all else, above everyone else, with every fiber of our being, and love our neighbor as ourselves following the example of His Passion. As you pray the Holy Rosary this month, you will reflect on the twenty mysteries of God’s outreach to us and His gift of His only Son. The Scriptures serve as a travelogue and map to the Kingdom of Heaven, Holy Mother Church is our spiritual “Sherpa”, and the Eucharist is both nourishment and waypoint along the path. You needn’t fear the loss of Heaven if you exchange your pride for humility and seek to love the Lord first and foremost. Congratulations to our newest Catholic Guides; the seven new Deacons ordained on October 8 at St Joseph’s Cathedral, including our brothers DCN Patrick Leduc and DCN Josh McDonald. |

There are many opportunities to serve! You can help collect for people with special needs. We have a plan to paint and repair the Christmas Creche. We have to plan and conduct the Christmas Party for People with Special Needs. We need to collect for those same people at St Catherine of Siena soon. We need to plan our own council Christmas party. We need to put up the Keep Christ in Christmas reminders. We can help at the St John Vianney Craft Fair. St Jude is looking for us to cook a pancake breakfast soon (after the 9:30 AM Mass). Ask us how you can help-we have ideas. |
