Worthy Officers, Brothers, and Sir Knights, |
| |
T. Graham Brown sang that we are “just trying to do the next right thing.” Why do we have to try? Why not always do the right thing in every circumstance? The reason is the great gift of freedom that God gave us. Humans have the power to choose to do good or to do evil. The tragedy is that what God has always asked us to do is in our very best interest. God wants us to be happy, fully alive and completely actualized. He created us to thrive in relationship with Him. We cannot be fully joyful without Him. But so often we think we know what’s best and we disobey; fail to follow His commands for our own well-being. God did not create us to be slaves; but we prefer to live in slavery to sin. God’s forbearance in creating us in freedom gives us the power to reject Him completely; or refuse to believe He exists, or most painful of all, to adopt an attitude of indifference to His existence. Sin separates us from God, but the history of fallen humanity is the story of a loving father working tirelessly to bring us home to Him. When all of God’s messengers were rejected or slain God sent His only beloved Son incarnate as Man that we might listen and follow one of our own-like us except in sin. We killed Him in the most gruesome and painful way imaginable. But God so loved us that He made the death and resurrection of His beloved Son essential for our redemption. Again, to avail ourselves of eternal joy, we need only accept His gift of reconciliation, repent, and seek to be a brother to Christ. To follow and imitate Him. Jesus will welcome the contrite of heart and demonstrate His love and trust in us by sending us on mission for His kingdom.
Vivat Jesus! |

Re-allocation of committed funds |
|
Will the council vote to use monies allocated, but not spent on, the Right to Life Dinner for the Bishop's Annual Appeal as requested by Bishop McDermott?
The budget has an allocation of $1000 for the Chittenden County RTL Dinner for food. In addition the St Stephen's Council sent us a check for $100 to support the same event. We actual spent about $700 leaving a balance up to $400. Bishop McDermott has asked us to give more this year for the Bishop's Fund than the $200 we gave last year. There is no allocation for the Bishop's Fund in the Budget. The Officers passed a motion to Warn the $400 to the council.

The last Business Meeting was held on Thursday, SEP 12 at 6:30 PM after Chicken Curry Dinner available at the SJV Hall. The dinner was prepared by Fr. Paul Sahaya as a fundraiser for St Paul’s Seminary in India. At the meeting we decided to use the Ladd Family donation to add additional space for Faithful Navigators and to remember our fallen brothers. Officer s passed. Installation will be on OCT 3 at 5:30 PM. PSG, PGK Steve Shover will officiate. We will have an Exemplification on OCT 10. We discussed in detail the staining of the Chapel at Camp Ta Kum Ta. The camp has the lift, Jay has the sprayer, and Worthy FN Mike Audette stated he could get stain and brushes. The weather dependent date was set as Oct 8 at 1100.
The last Officer Meeting was held on OCT 3 at 6:30 PM. Prior to the meeting, at 5:30 PM we conducted the Officer Installation. Worthy SD Chris Poirier was in attendance. There were 9 of 13 Officers in attendance. Following the Installation, we had pizza and salad. At the meeting a motion to Warn a donation of $400 to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal was passed. This money represents funds allocated for, but not spent for the Chittenden County Right to Life Dinner. Thirteen members attended the meeting, including three on Zoom. During his comments, the SD introduced us to the acronym “CARE”. This is an effective way to remember how to recruit and keep new members that will participate long after their Exemplification. Care stands for Contact, Accompany, Recruit, and Engage.
The Next Business Meeting will be on OCT 10 at 6:30 PM in person and on Zoom. We will begin the meeting and then suspend it to conduct the Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity. Pizza and salad will be at 5:30 PM. There will be one Warning-whether the council will donate allocated but unused Right-to-Life monies to respond to Bishop John McDermott’s Annual Appeal. |

There are many other opportunities to serve!
Your council conducts monthly Bingo at St. John Vianney Parrish Hall on the third Thursdays. We are going to need you all to commit to supporting this every month. The more volunteers, the lighter the load.
In addition to prayer we have Knights in need of visitation. Leonard Robear is now a widower living alone. His nephew told me at Mary's wake that a visiting nurse would be checking on him.
SK George Stevens is still at the Burlington Health and Rehab, 300 Pearl St., Room 511. Morning visits are best.
Note: if you would like a visitation, please call us!
Check the Save the Date section for other events.
If none of these interest you, ask us how you can help-we have more ideas. We want to hear your ideas too on how to pay forward our many blessings. |

Some of you have been very busy recruiting new members. For that reason we will conduct an Exemplification of Charity, Fraternity, and Unity, during our OCT 10 Business Meeting. We conducted a recruiting drive in SEP and Ray Bouchard signed up Kyle Tetreault at ST Jude. Ray Michaud has two candidates as well; one may be able to attend. Going forward, let us be mindful of using CARE to recruit and retain new members. This can be done anytime you meet a Catholic Gentleman. |
