Worthy Officers, Brothers, and Sir Knights,

Please make note that the Super Bingo date has changed from April 23rd to April 16th, 2023.

As I reflected on Holy Week this year, I realized the importance of Good Friday. There can be no Easter Sunday without Good Friday. Many Christian denominations focus almost exclusively on the Resurrection. This is a very unfortunate oversight that reduces the sacrifice of God to a News Clip.

As I prepared for Reconciliation and reviewed my own recent sins, I thought too, of all the sins, great and small, committed by humans since Adam and Eve. Do not be deceived-all of us have sinned and we are all responsible for hanging our Lord on the cross.

What made the greatest impression on me was the enormity of the collective sins of mankind and the equally great capacity of God to forgive us our sins. I thought too of the nature of Jesus-fully human and fully Devine, yet without sin. And how great is God’s distress at our sins. Is it any wonder that Jesus sweat blood in the Garden of Gethsemane in contemplation of taking on such a horrible burden. Think of the terror He must have felt; I know I would certainly ask that such a cup pass me by.

Our Lord accepted the father’s will in this matter. Love begets obedience. To “become sin Who did not know sin” was the only way to restore our relationship with the Father. He suffered the ultimate consequence of sin-separation from the Father. “My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?”

On that terrible cross in the face of betrayal and the mocking crowd, Love triumphed through sacrifice and forgiveness. Like the good thief, we have only to do the work of the Father- “believe in the One He sent.”

Our Easter Sunday is only possible because we were there, through our sins, on that cross with Jesus. And like Simon the Cyrenian, we helped Him carry our collective cross. (Willingly?) And what does our Lord ask us to do in light of His great sacrifice? That we acknowledge our sins, acknowledge His sacrifice and remember it at every Mass; that we eat His body and drink His blood, that we pray for and accept His forgiveness, that we pay it forward- “Love one another as I have loved you.”

As Bishop Barron observes; “God the Son went all the way down into our brokenness, becoming human, a slave, and obedient even to death, death on a cross.” How wonderful then that Christ shares with us the glory bestowed on Him by the Father at the Resurrection; that He has drawn all of us into the Love of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Vivat Jesus!

The last Council Business Meeting was held in person and remotely on ZOOM 9 March 2023 at 6:30 PM after Vespers and a delicious meal of pulled pork and salad provided by Ray and Sandy Michaud. Dick Labrecque provided dessert. Two Warnings were voted on. Both passed; to wit the loan of $6,000 to the SJV Bingo committee to purchase bingo equipment, and the slate of delegates and alternates to the State Convention was approved.

Minutes were sent to all members for approval.

The last Officer Meeting was held in person and on ZOOM on 30 March at 6:30 after pizza and salad. This meeting was moved up due to Holy Week. The officers discussed upcoming projects like the return of Bingo at St John Vianney, the Super Bingo, and the 125th Convention. The report on Fish dinner from our Worthy Warden led us to agree to serve a fish dinner on the First Friday of Lent, 2024.

2023 Super Bingo Date Change – April 16th

Dear Camp Ta-Kum-Ta/Knights of Columbus Super Bingo supporters,

Due to scheduling miscommunications, this year’s Super Bingo fundraiser for Camp Ta-Kum-Ta has been moved from April 23rd to April 16th. We hope you are still able to attend, but completely understand if not. If you are still able to attend there’s no need for you to do anything, your tickets will stay the same and work for the earlier date. If you are unable to attend on April 16th, you can contact morgan@takumta.org to either donate your registration fee to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta or to receive a refund.

The Knights of Columbus and Camp Ta-Kum-Ta want to thank all of you, for your support and being flexible. We hope to see you at the Double Tree on April 16th for an amazing day of Bingo supporting children with cancer and their families.

Sincerely,

Tom Gravelin, Program Chairperson, Trustee
