Worthy Officers, Brothers, and Sir Knights,

May is traditionally the month when we celebrate and invoke the intersession of our Mother, Saint Mary. The May crowning reminds us that she is the “Queen of Heaven and Earth.” The Memorare, made popular by Father Claude Bernard in the 17th Century, is an effective way to request special favors from our Heavenly Queen.  I highly recommend this prayer as a daily devotion to compliment the Rosary. The recent passing of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh made me ponder if St Joseph, as the consort of Mary, would be considered a “Prince of Heaven”. That title would make St Mary and St Joseph the ultimate power couple. There is another daily devotion, recited by Pope Francis to St Joseph for over 40 years, that would be an appropriate compliment to the Rosary and Memorare. Here are these two prayers for your consideration.

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, or implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph

Glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph, whose power makes the impossible possible, come to my aid in these times of anguish and difficulty. Take under your protection the serious and troubling situations that I commend to you, that they may have a happy outcome (here make your request). My beloved father, all my trust is in you. Let it not be said that I invoked you in vain, and since you can do everything with Jesus and Mary, show me that your goodness is as great as your power. Amen.
